About the Design

Hello Kitty is painted in her adorable signature style, surrounded by the auspicious Umegiku (plum and chrysanthemum) motif — one of Kutani ware's most celebrated lucky patterns. In Japanese tradition, the plum symbolises resilience, vitality, and longevity, blooming bravely through winter's cold. The chrysanthemum, Japan's national flower, is revered as the "King of a Hundred Flowers" — a noble symbol of long life and good fortune.

About Kutani Ware

Kutani ware (九谷焼) is a celebrated ceramic tradition from Ishikawa Prefecture, born in 1655 during the Edo period. Known worldwide as Japan Kutani, it is distinguished by its bold, vibrant five-colour palette (red, green, yellow, purple, and navy blue) and intricate overglaze painting (uwae-tsuke). Each piece is painted by hand by skilled artisans, fired multiple times to achieve its signature rich colours and luminous finish.
