🐕 Meet Shibata-san, the much-loved Japanese Shiba Inu character! This large cotton tote comes in several fun designs, each showing Shibata-san's charming Shiba personality – from a well-behaved good boy to a stubborn little dog who simply refuses to go for a walk, a sightseeing Shiba in the middle of Tokyo, a proud Shiba in front of Mt. Fuji, or even a Shiba ninja and samurai.

It is light and roomy, with space for A4 documents, notebooks and a water bottle, plus an inner pocket for your phone or keys. Perfect for school, work, lessons, shopping or as a spare bag on your travels.

Designs

  • Orikou Shibata-san (Navy) – "Orikou" means "good, well-behaved dog"
  • Maekake Shibata-san (Navy) – inspired by the maekake, the traditional Japanese shop apron: a black Shiba in a round crest, red stripes and retro lettering written right to left, just like old Japanese shop signs. Plain navy back.
  • Iyaiya Shibata-san (Beige / Green) – a Shiba digging in its paws and refusing to walk, with the Japanese words "嫌です" (Iya desu – "Nope, I don't wanna!"). Every Shiba owner will recognise this pose!
  • Scramble Shibata-san (Blue) – Shibata-san sitting at the famous Shibuya Scramble Crossing in Tokyo, surrounded by colorful city signs
  • Nihon no Shibata-san (Light Blue) – "Shibata-san of Japan": Shibata-san with Mt. Fuji, the rising sun and a traditional asanoha (hemp leaf) pattern
  • Chuken Shibata-san (Pink) – "Chuken" means "loyal dog": Shibata-san sits next to a loyal-dog statue in Shibuya, a famous meeting spot, asking "待ち合わせですか?" ("Waiting for someone?") under pink cherry blossoms
  • Shibata de Gozaru (Black / Blue) – Shibata-san as a ninja, with a throwing star, a secret scroll and the kanji "忍" (shinobi – ninja). "柴田でござる" (Shibata de gozaru) is an old samurai-style way of saying "I am Shibata!". Natural-white bag with beige handles.
  • Samurai desu ka? Shibata-san (Ivory) – "侍ですか" (Samurai desu ka? – "Are you a samurai?"): Shibata-san dressed as a samurai in a blue kimono jacket and hakama, with a katana at his side. Ivory bag with matching handles.
  • Sakura desu ka? Shibata-san – Shibata-san curiously sniffing fallen cherry blossom petals and asking "桜ですか?" (Sakura desu ka? – "Are these cherry blossoms?"). Soft pastel bag with pink handles.
  • Onami Shibata-san (Beige) – "Onami" means "big wave": Shibata-san bravely riding a boat through a giant wave inspired by Hokusai's famous woodblock print, with Mt. Fuji and the kanji "日本" (Japan). Natural beige bag with matching handles.
  • Kanpai desu ka? Shibata-san (Mint) – "乾杯ですか" (Kanpai desu ka? – "Cheers?"): Shibata-san and his black Shiba friend Kuroyanagi-san at a Japanese izakaya, with mugs of beer, edamame and yakitori. White and mint bag with mint handles.
  • Homete ne Shibata-san (Beige) – a proud Shiba sitting with its nose in the air, next to the words "褒めて下さい" (Homete kudasai – "Please praise me!"). Simple and elegant, with dark brown handles.
  • Obento desu ka? Shibata-san (Yellow) – "お弁当ですか?" (Obento desu ka? – "Is that a bento?"): Shibata-san peeking hungrily at a traditional wooden bento box with rice, rolled omelette (tamagoyaki) and an octopus-shaped sausage. White and yellow bag with yellow handles.

Care

  • Because of the dyeing method, colors may fade slightly or transfer to other items through sweat or friction (especially when wet). Please wash separately.
  • Do not use bleach-containing detergents and avoid soaking.
  • Cotton may shrink slightly after washing. Do not tumble dry.
  • Reshape and dry in the shade immediately after washing. Long exposure to direct sunlight or fluorescent light may cause fading.
  • Iron with a pressing cloth.

Good to know

These totes are hand-printed in India, one color at a time. Small shifts in the print, tiny knots or specks in the natural cotton, and a light natural smell from the cotton and ink (which fades with use) are part of their handmade charm.

Colors may look slightly different on your screen.
